sept - wedding gig @ Raffles Hotel (with adrian and euntaek)
25 Oct - wedding gig @ white rabbit at dempsey. (YL, elvin, howen and hendri). We sounded good man! that's why I love singing in a chapel cos the acoustics make u sound real good! haha, tho it was rather soft at the back as the sound couldn't really travel that far. Had a fun time

22nd Apr - Reader's Digest Brands Awards 2008

How cool, we did 2 x 30 min sets at this event. Lugged home a paper bag full of groceries (oyster sauce, oil, rice!!, coke, brand's essence and of course, a reader's digest mag)
The sound was terrible. We were all hooked into the house system and had great difficulty hearing each other. As what Erica said, we really had to play with faith. I couldn't hear well and kind screwed up my 'Wave' entrance. Played real sloooowww in the first set. But that's what they wanted anyway. Light, background music.
Somehow the 2nd set sounded much better. Guess we got a bit used to it. Frankly, despite how horrible the conditions are, it's a welcome challenge for me to sing in conditions like these. I feel that being able to adapt and handle such problematic venues just makes you a better musician. Imagine what you'd sound like when all the elements (technical ones, that is) are aligned in your favour.

18th Apr - Milk and Honey 2

We had to stand in for Jo and her band today. Today's not supposed to be our session. And so because of this, we would still have to go ahead and do our session next wk (3 wks in a row now), before taking a break for the next 3 wks while Jo gets her turn. Hmm... don't think the break would do any good. Cos while we are doing a decent job of building up our stamina for doing 3 x 45 min sets and then suddenly there's a break. Oh well.
Any way, today was fun. Dangerously fun though. Cos it was such a last minute replacement thing, we never got to jam. The only form of preparation was a verbal walk-through the forms/entrances, etc of all the songs by eugene on thurs nite at 11 plus. Hmm. I had to admit I was rather worried at first. But then, I thought, what the heck, just go and have fun. Indeed, it was! We did exactly the same repertoire as the first session. The turnout was... ok. At 8pm there was this family of 4. They left at 9. Then we played our 2nd set to empty tables, chairs, to the walls and paintings. Then, 3 ladies came and occupied the table outside. And halfway into our final set, a group of uncles/auntie came in for drinks. We then decided to repeat the teresa teng song which we sang in the 2nd set since it felt rather well-received. Glad to say that my singing was greeted with some applause. So I didn't massacre the song that much *whew*
Songs-wise, made the usual boo boos. Gabrah lyrics (but only for 1 song!) and forgot entrances. Sigh. My brain really does switch off after 10pm.
Today was fun. Different styles, better acoustics. Yummmmm
Let's hope this works out to something permanent and leads us to more/bigger things!

Today marked the start of a series of (hopefully) fortnightly friday night gigs at Milk and Honey located at Binjai Park (Bt. Timah)
[made some boo-boos today. Went off tempo, forgot and missed my entrances, etc. Obviously rusty pipes of mine. Also struggling to find my footing with this new small ensemble. Still trying to get used to the musicians. Bleah. The next session can only be better. Will have to be. Tanny has work to do!]

losing myself in music
Eva Cassidy is a helluva amazing singer. Her song arrangements are fantastic and there's something spiritual abt her. I don't know how to describe it. The arrangements and her style synergise and there's something absolutely magical about it! Every single song I listen to never fails to send down those tingling shivers down my spine or make my hair stand on end. AND her songs just tug at one's heartstrings and makes me start sniffling by the end of the song. It's so inspiring as well. Listening to her takes me to another world altogether. It feels somewhat floaty, dreamy, surreal. Also rekindles that extinguishing spark in me: the desire to want to live out my dream of becoming a singer/performer

Frodo finally has..... THE RING
My baby proposed to my last night. 01 March 12:15 am. (later I found out it was aimed at the 29th of Feb.)
Baby read me the 5 page long poem that he penned (with every 2 lines rhyming) that detailed what we've been thru in our 6 years together. Then he whipped out the RING and went on his knees. Aww.... I was absolutely stunned cos I'd least expected it! The poem was so sweetly written and I was already crying non-stop before he got thru the first page. And when the ring appeared, I was, erm, bawling.
I didn't say YES immediately cos I was really too stunned by it. Admittedly, there was some trepidation in me. Of the fact that this is gonna signify another step into a new phase of life. It felt strange, foreign, scary. Not that I didn't wanna say an emphatic and immediate YES but it just felt funny.
Even after 24 hours, the fact that I have just accepted his proposal has not fully sunk in yet. What does this mean? What is it going to be in store for me? I'm still looking at the gold ring box and the ring in a kinda strange light. I see it on my finger and ask myself... is it really happening to me? I accepted his ring, so this ring is mine and we're engaged?
My, have we really been together that long? Certainly doesn't feel like it. I'm really so blessed to have such a wonderful baby who has been through so much with me.
BTW my latest song obsession is the theme song of the musical 881. I absolutely love the lyrics. It's so plebian, plain and simple, makes 100% absolute sense and I can just relate to it. In particular, the short hokkien phrases. They should really have more of them! Listening to the song and thinking abt us just turns me into the sobby emotional sponge again. I also like the guitar strummy feel to the song. It has further strengthened my resolve to start my guitar lessons. Cos I wanna be able to play and sing and lose myself entirely in the song.

29th Feb - Lounge Lizards Gig @ Prince of Wales Backpacker's Hostel
Yes, you read it right. First time ever singing in a hostel. Well, it was at the bar at the hostel. Pretty cool place. Acoustics were surprisingly good. And the band played well. Considering the fact they've been playing together for so long and they are individually awesome musicians, they rocked. Me, I barely managed to scrape through as the only practice I had with the band was a 3 hr jamming session. I certainly feel honoured and fortunate to have such a fantastic bunch of musicians backing me up.

45 min set at Villa Bali. The restaurant/cafe/bar is Balinese themed, pretty cool. Very much like a Oosh, just not as well-maintained. (Seriously, I wonder anyone actually patronises that place at all) It was a small event, with a turnout of around 40-50 ppl or even less?
